12日凌晨發生芮氏規模四級地震，震央在台北士林，震撼台北地區，國立故宮博物院在地震第一時間立即依據「國立故宮博物院災害防救會報設置要點」，以及「國立故宮博物院安全管理室控制中心對地震應變措施及注意事項」與「國立故宮博物院駐警隊對地震應變措施及注意事項」之規定，啟動安全機制，在第一時間掌握文物及院區狀況，確保文物安全無虞。

故宮表示，當日值夜官、駐衛警察隊、機電室及控制中心等相關單位同仁，進入展場逐間巡檢文物、各項安全設施與器材，經檢查均無異常狀況後回報。另故宮駐警隊也同步擴大巡邏院區內、外狀況，檢視各項房舍建築、道路及相關機電設施一切正常。
